Demand for sweeter life: TRS district president M. Raghunandan Rao submits a memorandum to Collector B.Venkatesam in Sangareddy on Tuesday.
Sangareddy: The Telangana Rastra Samithi on Tuesday demanded a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,500 per quintal of sugarcane in the district during this crushing season. Party district president M.Raghunandan Rao and Zilla Parishad vice-chairman Ashi Reddy submitted a memorandum to District Collector B.Venkatesam here on Tuesday. They demanded a meeting with the sugar mill managements and cane commissioner before the commencement of crushing immediately after Deepavali.
Other demands included payment of arrears of Rs.75 per quintal to farmers by Ganapathi Mills and insurance of Rs. 5 lakh. They wanted mobile school vans for the children of labourers . TRS also demanded minimum wages for the labour and minimum needs like blankets, and toilets in the mill premises. Joint Collector Ramshankar Naik who later spoke to The Hindu said, the administration in principle agreed to convene a meeting with the managements so that congenial atmosphere was created right at the start of the season
