NEW DELHI: A special court here on Tuesday granted interim bail to Ashok Malhotra and A. K. Mishra, a Delhi Development Authority official, both of whom are facing prosecution in the Dheerpur multi-crore scam pertaining to grabbing of land meant for rehabilitation of slum dwellers. Special Judge S. K. Kaushik granted bail to the two accused on their furnishing personal bonds of Rs.1 lakh and a surety of like amount each. The interim bail has been granted till November 22.
The court said the CBI had not been able to give satisfactory replies to the queries put by defence while arguing the bail plea.
It took note of the defence argument that the CBI had not been able to explain why Malhotra and Mishra should continue to remain in custody when five other accused, including an official of the Delhi Assembly, had not been arrested.
