“Cong. Govt. making such claims with an eye on elections” “None of the 1,432 applicant colonies regularised yet” NEW DELHI: Taking a strong exception to the Delhi Government’s claims on unauthorised colonies in an advertisement, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has charged that the Government had made similar assertions in 2004 but while 1,432 colonies had applied for regularisation, not one of them had been regularised since. Stating that the Delhi Government was making such claims with an eye on the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections due next year, Dr. Vardhan said the Congress Government had at the time of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections tried to fool 40 lakh residents of unauthorised colonies through the Master Plan for Delhi-2021. At the time of the MCD polls, he said, the Union Urban Development Ministry had announced that all unauthorised colonies would be regularised within three months. The same announcement was made by the Government in the Delhi Assembly too. The BJP leader said now by publishing advertisements with stern conditions, the registered resident societies of the 1,539 unauthorised colonies have been asked to submit fresh applications between November 5 and December 15. Stating that with provisions such as development fee, processing fee, charges and other fees and provision of free land for basic amenities and community centre, Dr. Vardhan said the process has been made so difficult that it would take years to complete and till then the colonies would remain unauthorised as they are now.
