Trains held up

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Several long-distance mail and express trains coming to Thiruvananthapuram Central were held up for 65 to 165 minutes due to flooding of railway tracks in the torrential rain that lashed the capital on Tuesday morning. The train services got affected as the railway tracks in the Thriuvananthapuram Central-Pettah stretch and near Veli got submerged in the rain.

Railway authorities were forced to stop the trains near the Uppidamoodu, Pettah, and Kazhakuttam railway stations as the loco-pilots were unable to pilot the locomotives. Long-distance commuters, students, and office-goers travelling in the trains had a harrowing time . Many were seen wading through the water and moving along the tracks to reach their destinations.

Railway sources said the services were restored once the water level receded.

The 6341 Ernakulam -Thiruvananthapuram Intercity Express was delayed by 125 minutes; 6303 Vanchinad Express by 165 minutes; 2623 Chennai -Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Express by 65 minutes; and 6381 Mumbai -Kanyakumari Express by 113 minutes.
