JAGGAYYAPET (Krishna dist.) : Samineni Venkateswara Rao (50), an advocate and a cousin of the Government Whip Samineni Udayabhanu, was injured severely when a group of 20 persons attacked him with sticks near Annapurna theatre here on Tuesday. He suffered injuries on his forehead and right leg and his car was damaged partially. He lodged a complaint against Samineni Ramu, an advocate and another relative of Mr. Udayabhanu and told the police that personal, political and family rivalry was the reason for the attack.
The police said that Mr. Rao, an active member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and a leading advocate in the town had disputes with Ramu, a Congress activist, for long time. Reported remarks by Mr. Rao on Mr. Udayabhanu and his father might have infuriated the Congress activists, the police said. Mr. Rao was undergoing treatment in a local hospital and the police registered a case against Ramu and 20 others under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC. The TDP activists staged a dharna in the town demanding action against the accused persons.
