To manage crowd: Barricades put up by the Tirupur police at old bus stand.
TIRUPUR: With migrant workers going to their native places for Deepavali from here, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has begun operating special buses to clear the rush.
Additional trips
“We have started operating special buses from Monday evening itself. On Tuesday, we operated over 200 additional trips to Tiruchi and Madurai,” said a senior official of TNSTC.
The police and transport authorities are expecting last minute rush on Wednesday.
To regulate the crowd, especially bound for Madurai and Tiruchi, the police have put up barricades in old bus stand.
New services
A TNSTC official said that the 75 new services being operated to places such as Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Sengottai, Tuticorin, Rameswaram, Mayiladuthurai, Theni, Cuddalore, and Thiruvannamalai would help them manage the crowd easily this time.
More buses
When compared to last year, the TNSTC is operating more buses now.
According to the officials, 250 special buses have been mobilised from Kangeyam, Nambiyur, Erode, Gobichettipalayam, Dharapuram, Palani and Sathyamangalam depots.
On their part, Madurai, Tiruchi, Kumbakonam and Dindigul divisions are operating 250 services from Tirupur.

This year too, Southern Railway did not operate special trains to Nagercoil via Madurai; Kumbakonam via Thanjavur, from here, said M. Chandran, State secretary of the CITU. It had not introduced the overnight express train between Coimbatore and Nagercoil via Tirupur and Madurai announced in the budget, he said.
