VISAKHAPATNAM: The ‘padayatra’ being organised by the AP Girijana Samakhya and CPI against bauxite mining in the Visakha agency area and setting up of refineries in plain areas of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts, reached Balapam village on Tuesday.
The ‘padayatra’ commenced at Sapparla on Sunday and will conclude at Rachapalli in Makavaripalem on November 11 where a public meeting would be held. Communist Party of India and Girijana Samakhya members explained the consequences of mining and setting up of alumina refineries. The agitation would continue till the government dropped both proposals, said CPI district secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy.
