VISAKHAPATNAM: The independent advisory group set up under a World Bank aided project on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the implementation of resettlement of tribals eking out a living by indulging in podu cultivation in the agency areas.
During an interaction with the reporters, group members Urmila Pringle, P. Sadalaxmi and A. Krishna Rao and Chief Conservator of Forests D.K. Jha said the income level of tribals had gone up life after they were brought under World Bank-funded Community Forest Management. The resettlement action plan (RAP) has so far covered 432 vana samrakashana samitis in Visakhapatnam, Narsipatnam, Paderu, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam divisions.
So far, 394 plans had been prepared and approved with an outlay of Rs.25.31 crores of which an amount of Rs.6.75 crores had been spent up to last month. The group members non-government organisations had been engaged to see effective implementation of the rehabilitation and ensure social auditing. Under the scheme, horticulture, agriculture, floriculture and fisheries were being encouraged.
