This Day That Age
Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, India’s Defence Minister, told the Security Council on November 5 that under no circumstances would India “compound the felony” that Pakistan had committed in Kashmir nor would India acquiesce in the commission of aggression. Mr. Krishna Menon spoke in the resumed debate in the Security Council after the Russian delegate had reiterated the Soviet viewpoint with regard to Kashmir, namely that the people of Kashmir had definitely decided their future already and that Kashmir was an inalienable part of India. The Kashmir people did not wish to see any intervention in their affairs by any unwanted tutors”, the Russian spokesman had added. Mr. Krishna Menon added that Pakistan’s status was that of an aggressor and until the aggression was vacated the Council could not proceed further in the matter. He described as “conducive to a constructive consideration of the situation” certain portions of the speech of the British delegate, Sir Pierson Dixon, but described other parts as “tragic”.
