This Day That Age
The Madras Legislative Assembly on November 6 gave leave to the Home Minister Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam, to introduce in the House a Bill to prevent insults to national honour. Entitled “The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Bill, 1957”, the measure seeks to empower the government to put down offences against the Indian National Flag, pictures, effigies and statues of the Father of the Nation, or the Constitution of India. The Government consider it to be expedient and necessary that any such insulting action to such symbols sacred to Indian Nationalism should be put down firmly. The Bill is intended to serve this objective.
