Coimbatore: The Manitha Neethi Pasarai has said that the minority communities were being discriminated against.
State president of the Pasarai, M. Mohammed Ali Jinnah, observed that minority communities had always been the target of Hindutva forces.
It was unfortunate that the State and the police were in the practice of coming down heavily on the minority community.
Both in the Mumbai and Coimbatore serial blasts of 1993 and 1998, the actions of Hindutva forces had been the root cause for the subsequent incidents.
Unfortunately, these forces had never been dealt with firmly in accordance to the provisions of law.
The police used to invoke the minor provisions of law against these forces whereas minority community was being dealt with firmly in terms of special trials and stringent punishments.
Pasarai wanted to ensure that everyone involved in the riots both at Mumbai and Coimbatore should be punished.
The Pasarai asked the State Government to focus on providing basic amenities to those living in temporary shelters of the Corporation following the building collapse on October 19.
Efforts should be taken to reconstruct permanent shelters for them at the same place. Adequate dresses and bedspreads should be given to them.
The Pasarai said government jobs should be provided the kin of those killed in the building collapse.
It said Rs. 403 crore should be provided under the slum clearance scheme of the Jawarhalal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission to construct houses for those living in dilapidated buildings.
