Sachin Tendulkar CHENNAI: Sachin Tendulkar has declined to take on India’s Test captaincy citing personal reasons. Quoting unnamed officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, PTI reported on Tuesday that Tendulkar had conveyed his decision to top BCCI officials, and was unlikely to change his mind. According to Cricinfo website, Tendulkar told CNN-IBN, “I don’t feel right about it at the moment.” Took over in 1996Tendulkar became captain for the first time in 1996, when he took over from Mohammed Azharuddin after the series against England. Azharuddin’s last stint ended after the two-Test series against South Africa in 2000. In all, Tendulkar led India in 25 Tests, winning four and losing nine. Rahul Dravid’s surprise relinquishment of the Test and One-Day captaincy in September opened up a vacancy and it was widely expected that Tendulkar would fill the slot. M.S. Dhoni, ODI captain, now emerges as the front-runner. Selectors to meetThe selectors will meet in Mohali on Thursday to name the team for the last three ODIs against Pakistan and also the captain for the three-Test series that follows.
