There is a strong need for Indian firms to gear up for future challenges BANGALORE: CII-EXIM Bank Award for Excellence, instituted jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Export Import Bank of India, encourages organisations to strengthen their management systems, practices and capabilities in order to enhance and sustain their competitiveness to become world-class organisations. In the past 13 years only seven companies have won the award. This year saw greater participation by companies from different sectors. Participants included those from automobiles, auto components, power generation and distribution, telecom, business process outsourcing, fast moving consumer goods and several others. More than 200 assessors and a panel of jurors were involved in the evaluation and selection process this year. Although there has been a rise in the number of companies that have been recommended this year there were no winners for the top honours. Forty companies were short-listed for site visits to compete for the four levels of recognition, of which the jury chose 25 companies for the Certificate of Strong Commitment to Excel and 10 for Commendation Certificate for Significant Achievement. This clearly indicates that while Indian companies are improving there is a strong need to gear up for future challenges. Past winners of the award include Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS), Infosys Technologies Limited, Tata Iron & Steel Co. Limited, Maruti Udyog Limited and Hewlett Packard (India) Limited.
