TAMBARAM: A delegation of representatives from a Korean construction firm visited the road overbridges under construction in Chennai and the nearby areas.

Accompanied by officials of the Highways Department, the team visited road overbridge sites in Tambaram and other areas in the southern suburbs of Chennai.

This was part of a visit to explore the scope for offering technology to design bridges that could be constructed at costs less than usual and much faster than the conventional methods.

Officials of the Highways Department said the six-member delegation from Dongyang Construction was led by Kwon Oh Gun, the firm’s president.

The new technology using ‘Corrugated Steel Slab Web Beam’ would reduce the time taken to complete the superstructure compared to the conventional method of building them, the team members said.

The visit by the delegation was to get an idea about the road and soil conditions here and how well the new technology could be put to best use. Only after an elaborate study, would the firm send a comprehensive report and proposal to the State Government to adopt this new technology that could significantly reduce project cost and also the time taken for completing them. Among other places, the team also visited the road overbridge under construction near Tambaram Sanatorium Railway Station.

Residents of East Tambaram have been urging the State Government to provide a ramp on Bharatha Matha Street for a long time now.
