HYDERABAD: The issue of irregularities committed by officials while implementing Indiramma housing scheme rocked the Assembly on Tuesday leading to a walkout by the Telugu Desam, TRS, CPI(M) and BJP members alleging that the government was actually shielding them in the guise of the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS).
Faced with criticism against corruption indulged in by these officials, the government had, sometime ago, announced VDS as the last opportunity for them to disclose the irregularities and thus escape punishment.
The VDS figured through a question raised by T. Devender Goud ( Telugu Desam), who alleged that officials implementing Indiramma had amassed huge wealth overnight and that the VDS only amounted to leaving them scot-free.
House adjourned
The Question Hour was marred by the TDP members, who stormed the podium thrice, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House for 15 minutes.
As no other matter could be taken up, Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy announced that all the remaining nine questions were deemed to have been answered.
