Petitions can be forwarded through SMS

Staff Reporter

TIRUVALLUR: The district administration has announced that applications for various services offered by government departments can be forwarded through short messaging service (SMS).

Collector Rajendrakumar said in a release that hitherto applications seeking birth or death certificates, house site or agricultural land ‘pattas,’ nativity or income certificates and ‘patta’ transfer requests had been presented in person or forwarded to officials concerned through mail.

The applicants are forced to shell out money for procuring applications, postal expense and transportation. The new arrangement would help people avoid all the trouble.

Applications or grievance petitions could be sent through SMS to 6767666. In the first line, the applicant should type matlr@tn.nic.in followed by his/her name with the address and complete details required for the certificate/service he or she opts for. If a person aspires to apply for a birth certificate, then the name of the child, date of birth and place of birth should be typed along with the applicants’ name and address, Mr. Rajendrakumar said.

Details about action taken would be intimated through SMS to the applicant.

Information about the expected date on which the certificate or service could be used in person by the applicant on payment of charges, if any, would also be intimated, he added.
