HYDERABAD: President of Swiss Confederation Micheline Calmy-Rey has favoured improved trade relations between India and Switzerland.
“I hope we will be signing a free trade agreement with India soon. The Swiss Government is considering to liberally grant visas to businessmen,” she said here on Tuesday.
Addressing members of the Confederation of Indian Industry at the CII-Sohrabji Green Business Centre (SGBC), Ms. Clamy-Rey said that the economic cooperation between the two countries was only at 2.5 billion Swiss franks by 2005.
The President lauded the effort of CII and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for signing a memorandum of understanding, aimed at cooperation in energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy, environ- ment, green buildings and water management. The MoU was signed by SDC’s country director Francois E. Binder and CII-SGBC’s senior director S. Raghupathy.
Mr. Raghupathy said a consortium-New Ventures India- of banks, financial institutions, CII and a few other interest groups established a Green Fund to encourage small and medium enterprises developing green technologies. CII State president Pradeep Dhobale and past chairperson of CII South Shobhana Kamineni also spoke.
