Lok Satta seeks information on MLAs’ assets

HYDERABAD: The Lok Satta Party on Tuesday sought copies of the statements of assets and liabilities submitted by legislators to the Speaker of the Assembly under the Right to Information Act.

In an application to the Public Information Officer of the Assembly Secretariat, party secretary D.V.V.S. Varma sought to know how many legislators had submitted their financial statements of their assets and liabilities. The information sought about elected representatives does not fall under the purview of exemptions listed under the RTI Act. . Voters have a afundamental right to know the financial details of their electoral candidates, according to a press release here.
