a helping hand: Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora presenting a cheque for Rs. 30 lakh to S.S. Rajsekar, managing trustee, National Agro Foundation, in New Delhi on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on Tuesday handed over a cheque for Rs.30 lakh to the National Agro Foundation’s Integrated Rural Development Initiatives as part of the corporate social responsibility endeavour by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited. NAF Managing Trustee S.S. Rajsekar received the cheque in the presence of CPCL Managing Director S.S. Acharya here. NAF is a public charitable trust founded by Bharat Ratna S. Subramanian. It is working for rural upliftment in Tamil Nadu through technological and capacity building interventions. Its mission is to socially and economically empower those below the poverty line, small and marginal farmers and women leading to improved purchasing power and quality of the rural poor. Focus areasMr. Rajsekar said their focus areas were agriculture and cattle development and social development. NAF has also established a tissue culture laboratory as part of technology transfer programme from laboratory to land to produce quality marketable plants at a low cost for the benefit of farmers.
