Special Correspondent

CUDDALORE: Ex gratia to be paid to the kin of the victims of natural calamities has been doubled from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1 lakh. The revised norms came into force on October 29, 2007, Collector Rajendra Ratnoo said on Tuesday, while addressing a press conference here. The definition of natural calamities had been expanded to include landslip, avalanche, cloud burst and pest attack (including locust and rodent menace), besides cyclone, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami and hailstorm, Mr. Ratnoo said. Those affected would get Rs.35,000 to Rs.50,000, depending upon the nature of the disability. The grievously injured, who required hospitalisation for more than a week, would get Rs. 7,500.
