Union Ministers asked to file IT returns

NEW DELHI: Union Ministers have been asked to file their annual income tax returns as a number of them have been found to be not doing so.

Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar has issued a circular recently asking all the Ministers to file their returns.

Routine exercise

Confirming this, Mr. Chandrashekhar told PTI that it was a routine annual exercise. “Such a circular is issued even to bureaucrats.”

Sources said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had asked all Ministers to file their returns annually to ensure transparency in public life.

However, several of them have not been following the directive, prompting the Cabinet Secretary to issue the circular. — PTI
