BJP-JD(S) cannot provide stability: Congress

New Delhi: As the BJP and JD (S) presented their MLAs before President Pratibha Patil to assert that they had the majority in the Karnataka Assembly, the Congress on Tuesday said it did not dispute the number of legislators the combine had in Karnataka but felt they could not provide a stable government.

Congress general Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Prithviraj Chavan said stability was questionable as the JD (S) was a divided house.

“The Congress is not disputing the numbers of the BJP-JD(S) combine but they cannot provide stability because of the continuing split in the JD(S),” Mr. Chavan said.

At a press conference, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu contested the Congress observation. “How can the Congress talk about providing a stable government. It is a rejected and defeated party in Karnataka,” he said. — PTI
