Shanthi clinches honours

HYDERABAD: Ch. Shanthi of Srikakulam emerged the fastest runner in the girls’ under-18 category clocking 12.7secs in the 100m event of the AP State inter-district junior athletics championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Warangal on Tuesday, according to information received here.

SAI (Kurnool) wins

Sports Authority of India (STC, Kurnool) scored a 1-0 win over State Bank of Hyderabad in the SAAP Premier League prize money football tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here. The match-winner came in the dying minutes through winger Uday.

In another match, South Central Railway defeated AOC Centre 2-1 with Vijay and Srinivas being the scorers for the winner, while Mondal reduced the margin.

St. Andrew’s moves up

St. Andrew’s moved up with a dozen points each in both the boys’ and girls’ sections after three rounds of the Fr. Devasia inter-school chess tournament here on Tuesday.

St. Andrew’s ‘A’ boys blanked St. Mark’s Progressive 4-0 to tally 12, while it’s girls’ ‘A’ team got the better of its ‘B’ team by an identical margin to lead the field.

The results (third round): Boys: St. Andrew’s ‘B’ (11) bt St. Ann’s Grammar School, Malkajgiri (9) 3-1; St. Andrew’s ‘A’ (12) bt St. Mark’s Progressive ‘A’ (6.5) 4-1; Delhi Public School, Sikh Village (6.5) lost to St. Andrew’s ‘C’ (9) 1.5-2.5; Hindu Public School ‘B’ (9) bt Hindu Public School ‘A’ (4.5) 4-0.

Girls: St. Ann’s ‘A’ (11) bt Hindu Public School (9) 3-1; St. Andrew’s ‘A’ (12) bt St. Andrew’s ‘B’ (5.5) 4-0; St. Mark’s Public School (6) lost to St. Ann’s Grammar, Malkajgiri (11) 1-3; Secunderabad PS (4) lost to Auxilium (10) 0-4.

All-India body-building

The Indira Gandhi memorial all-India body-building championship will be held at the Fateh Maidan indoor stadium on November 18 and 19 in open weight category. The best five finishers in the nine categories from the last senior Nationals held in Nellore will be invited along with five best local entries.
