MGU men take trophy

KOLENCHERRY: Mahatma Gandhi University, powered by Kerala’s young guns Sankar P. Gopan and Alvin Francis, lifted the South Zone inter-university men’s badminton title here on Tuesday.

Acharya Nagarjuna upset last year’s winner Calicut 2-1 and won the women’s title.

The results:

Men: Final: Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam bt Bangalore 3-1; For third place: Anna, Chennai bt Acharya Nagarjuna 3-1.

Women: Final: Acharya Nagarjuna, Guntur bt Calicut 2-1;

For third place: Osmania bt Mahatma Gandhi 2-0. — Principal Correspondent
