Sekar, Nivedha triumph

CHENNAI: B. Sekar (Chennai Port Trust) and L. Nivedha (Murugesh Dhanushkodi) emerged champions in the under-16 boys’ and girls’ sections respectively in the Kalaimagal Viddyalaya first inter-school rapid chess championship at Kalaimagal Viddyalaya MHSS, Royapuram, here on Sunday.

N. Srinath, former World under-12 chess champion, gave away the prizes.

Schools table tennis

The Mylapore Club will conduct its 12th City Schools table tennis tournament for non-rankers, under the auspices of Madras District Table Tennis Association, from November 16 to 18 at the club premises.

The tournament is sponsored by Sportstar.

Players who had represented the State are not eligible to participate. The tournament will be held in three categories — sub-juniors, juniors and seniors. Entries close on November 15 and for details, contact, Member-in-charge (sports), ph: 24995315 or 24994293.

Treble for SRM

Host SRM University bagged all three titles on the concluding day of the Tamil Nadu Inter-University sports meet at its campus (Kattankulathur) here on Monday. SRM University won the men’s volleyball title with a 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 win over Sathyabama University.

In ball badminton, SRM won both the men’s and women’s titles. The men’s team defeated Bharatidasan University (Tiruchi) 23-29, 29-25, 29-17 and the women’s beat Madras University 20-29, 29-21, 29-18.
