BHUBANESWAR: The State Government will announce the launch of an annual State-wide talent hunt test for the budding singers, painters and dancers. Thanks to new Governor M.C. Bhandare, this will bring smile on the faces of children of the State on the occasion of Children’s Day. Already admired as a connoisseur of culture for his concern for the rich art and culture of Orissa, Mr. Bhandare has directed the Department of Culture to host the competition and initiate Governor’s running trophy for the State toppers. Sources in the Directorate of Culture revealed it and added that the Governor had a detailed discussion on the programme with Commissioner of Culture G.N.Mohanty recently at the Raj Bhawan. It would be a three-tier test - from block and municipality level to the district level and finally in the State-level and in two categories; students of class 5 to 7 forming the junior group and senior group would cover students of class 8 to 10. While Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi would coordinate tests in Odissi dance, folk dance and music, Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi would look after the painting competition, explained the sources. The District Councils of Culture would conduct the first and second level tests in both categories to select the best two competitors in each branch who would be sent to the State-level meet in Bhubaneswar. The competition would commence on November 25 at the block and municipality level to be followed by the district level test on December 3 and State level meet on December 17. The government would reimburse travel expanses of the competitors and provide accommodation in Bhubaneswar during the meet, it added.
