NEW DELHI: A delegation of school children and teachers from Russia is on a visit here to take part in the Children’s Creativity Festival being organised by Nehru Bal Samiti from November 10 to 15. The festival is being organised to commemorate the 60th anniversary of India’s Independence and the 45th anniversary of Nehru Bal Mela.

The delegation, comprising 13 students aged between 12 and 15 years and three teachers from Hindi Boarding School No.19 in Moscow and from a school in Kineshma, will be visiting historic monuments in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur besides visiting various schools here.

Interestingly, the students from Moscow are learning Hindi up to Class XII at Hindi Boarding School No.19 in Moscow. This language course is being conducted by the Education Department of the Russian Government.

The delegations from the two schools will be presenting solo and group dances at the Samiti premises on the inaugural day of the Children’s Creativity Festival on November 10 and on November 14, Chacha Nehru’s birthday popularly celebrated as Children’s Day.

Says Alla Polapava, the English teacher from Kineshma: “During our trip we are looking forward to learn more about the culture and traditions of India. Some of our school children also wish to practise their spoken Hindi and English language skills during their visit. We are also interested in learning about the new education systems in place in India.”

“For the festival, the children have prepared a programme on Indian and Russian folk dances and a programme on English and Russian songs as well. They want to learn more about Indian dances and poetry,” she adds. During their visit to Delhi, the delegates will stay at Kulachi Hansraj Modern School in Ashok Vihar, which hosted an interactive session with the Indian students on Tuesday. Kulachi Hansraj Modern School Principal Pammi Dutta said: “The Russian students presented a song during the course of the interaction and some of the students also asked questions about India during the session.”
