Department to be urged to take over Yatrinivas

Sirsi: The review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme has decided to write once again to the Tourism Department urging it to take over Yatrinivas in the town.

At the meeting held here on Monday, Land Army assistant director Suresh Hegde said that the Yatrinivas was built by Land Army at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. As many as 15 letters had been written to the department requesting it to take over the Yatrinivas, but no reply had been received till date, he said.

Taluk panchayat president Chandrkala Gowda asked the Land Army Department to handover the copies of the letters to her. The meeting also raised objection to the Horticulture Department’s report on the estimated loss of arecanut in the taluk. The department in its report had put the loss at 8 per cent against the estimated loss of 45 per cent to 50 per cent, the members alleged. The department’s assistant director was taken to task when he tried to harp on the matter.

Non-issuance of free bus pass to persons with physical disabilities and below poverty line cards to eligible beneficiaries also figured in the meeting.

Taluk panchayat vice-president Malini Hegde and chief executive officer V.S. Hegde were among those who were present.
