BANGALORE: A 13-member high-level delegation from Xi’an, an economic and information technology centre in West China, held a meeting with BPO industry leaders here on Wednesday, and presented opportunities for mutual cooperation in the sector. Wang Qiwen, honorary president Xi’an People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said at the Xi’an-Bangalore Outsourcing Conference that Xi’an, the “’base city of service outsourcing in China” offered a lot of business opportunities in various sectors. Xi’an is the leading centre for education and science, industries including manufacturing, tourism, finance, communication and logistics. Xi’an has been declared the “2007 Chinese outstanding creative city” at the Chinese City Creativity Forum and had emerged as the ideal destination for investment, living and recreation, because of its central location and easy access to major business hubs of China, he added. The delegation comprising government officials is in India to improve the communication and cooperation between Xi’an Municipal Government and Indian investors. The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI), which hosted the event, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Xi’an Municipal Government during a visit to China in April this year, to focus on promotion of trade cooperation and investment between Xi’an and India. Wednesday’s conference saw a tie-up between Starting Point Competency Training India Limited and Xi’an Service Outsourcing Development Association, Shaanxi, China to promote competency in developmental activities for BPO industry in Xi’an. FKCCI president S.S. Patil said the Indian Government had identified more than 160 services specifically for exports. The FKCCI would look forward to facilitate a long-term and beneficial coordination with the Xi’an People Municipal Government. He exhorted Indian investors to enhance cooperation in hi-tech improvement, talents exchange, financial capital flow, service trade and tourism. Wang Yi, Chairman of the Service Outsourcing Working Committee Council for International Investment Promotion, said the Xi’an Municipal Government had chalked out a series of policies to implement the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection.
