Order on admission to nursery classes on Nov. 14

Staff reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said it would pass an order on November 14 on the Delhi Government guidelines for admission to pre-primary classes in the Capital’s private schools.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice M. K. Sharma and Justice R. S. Sodhi fixed the date for an order after counsel for the Government informed it that the guidelines had been sent to the Lieutenant-Governor for notification.

The Government had submitted the guidelines to the Court on Tuesday. The highlights of the guidelines are autonomy for schools to frame their own criteria for admissions; no interview with parents of applicant kids or interaction with the kids; and preference to neighbourhood concept while preparing the merit list.

The guidelines are quite contrary to the Ashok Kumar Ganguly Committee recommendations. The Committee has suggested a uniform “points formula” for admissions to these classes for all private schools.
