Man held on charge of cheating student
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff have arrested Amith Kumar alias Mukesh (27) of Patna in Bihar who had allegedly cheated an MBBS seat aspirant of Rs. 10.75 lakh by promising her a seat in the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences here.
The police said Amith Kumar and his accomplice Ananth Singh had advertised in two English newspapers that they would get seats in medical and engineering colleges in Karnataka. Swadeshi Roy of Nashik in Maharashtra contacted Amith Kumar, seeking an MBBS seat for his sister. On September 4, the duo asked Mr. Roy to come to a hotel in High Grounds area and took from him Rs. 7.5 lakh and a cheque for Rs. 3.25 lakh.
After realising the fraud, Mr. Roy lodged a complaint on September 15. The CCB arrested Amith in Patna.
