Court issues contempt notice to police officer

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Sub-Inspector of Police, Museum Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram, to appear in person before the court on November 16 and show cause why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for not complying with the High Court directive.

The High Court had earlier directed him to hand over to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Thiruvananthapuram, the CDs seized from the shops of K.P. Varghese, managing director of Wellgate Videos. The court also ordered that the CDs that were not required for investigation could be given to Mr. Varghese. The SI filed a petition before the magistrate court one-and-a-half months after the High Court order seeking extension of time to comply with the directive. The SI said quotations had been called for manufacturing the box.

The court, while considering the petition filed by Mr. Varghese, observed that the action of the sub-inspector appeared to be “a mockery of the judicial procedure” and the SI had given scant regard to the directive of the court.

The court asked what was the need for inviting quotations for manufacturing a box.
