Celebration time: P.K.H. Tharakan, Adviser to the Governor, at the release of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Foundation Day Flag in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: Police officials have been instructed to take precautionary measures to maintain law and order in the State during Deepavali, adviser to the Governor P.K.H. Tharakan has said. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said the police had been told to be alert, particularly during the festival period, and take steps to prevent untoward incidents. A few days ago, Governor Rameshwar Thakur had reviewed the law and order situation in the State with senior police officials, including Director-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan and Police Commissioner of Bangalore N. Achuta Rao. VigilanceThe police had been directed to be vigilant and maintain peace and tranquillity during President’s Rule, Mr. Tharakan said. Earlier, Mr. Tharakan released the Foundation Day Flag of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka. The aim of Flag Day was to spread the message of scouting and guiding among all sections of society, and collecting a nominal amount of Rs. 2 for a flag sticker was a token of recognition and appreciation of the movement. The Scout Movement, founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1907, had successfully completed 100 years and entered the second century on August 1. The adventurous spirit of youngsters should be harnessed and guided in the right direction, Mr. Tharakan said.
