Private partnership in rural public schools opposed
HYDERABAD: The A.P. Save Education Committee has taken strong exception to the State Government’s decision to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with corporate houses to establish the proposed rural public schools despite opposition and said this indicated the World Bank’s directive to the State Government to involve private corporate houses.
G. Haragopal, general secretary of A.P. Save Education Committee, said that these public private participation schemes would only help private operators squander public money. He said that the so called social responsibility of the corporate sector revealed its true colours when they withdrew proposals after the Government made it clear that urban lands were not available.
“Corporate houses came forward to establish these schools expecting to grab 50 acres of urban land around Hyderabad and other big cities,” he alleged.
K.Venugopal, president, APTF-257, said that the 80,000 ordinary schools throughout the State could provide quality education if minimum facilities were extended and teachers appointed on a regular basis.
