Harminder sparkles

NEW DELHI: Two goals by Harminder Singh helped Government Senior Secondary School, Jarkhar, Ludhiana pull off an impressive 3-2 victory over Young Pioneer English School, Imphal, after the team had trailed 0-2 at halftime in the ONGC 35th Nehru junior hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday.

Gagandeep Singh scored the winning goal for the Ludhaina team. Rabikanta scored both the goals for the Imphal team.

In another match, three goals by Sanjay Herenj helped Army Boys Sports Company, Bangalore, beat Union Academy Senior Secondary School, 5-0. Rakesh Roshan Ekka and Bipin Micmy Ekka scored the other goals for Army Boys that qualified for the super-league.

Indira Priyadarshini Higher Secondary School, Bhopal, was the other team to book a super-league berth as it beat DAV Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, 6-1. Affan Yousaf (4), Shakir Husain and Faisal Khan were the marksmen for the winner. Ramandeep Singh reduced the margin for the loser.

NCC Directorate, Orissa, also recorded a 5-0 victory over Khalsa Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, thanks to a hat-trick by Cornelius Ekka. Amardeep Ekka and Ratnakar Ekka found the other goals.
