EME Centre qualifies for super league

HYDERABAD: EME Centre scored a solitary-goal win over State Bank of India to qualify for the super league of the SAAP Premier League prize money football tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here on Wednesday.

The match-winner came in the 20th minute of first-half when N. Prajit latched onto a fine lob from Pradeep to find the target.

In another match, Hyderabad Globe also recorded a 1-0 win over AOC Centre with Alamdar Raza netting the match-winner of a 35-yard kick in the 38th minute.

The six teams which qualified for the super league commencing from November 9 are: South Central Railway, State Bank of Hyderabad, SAI (STC, Kurnool), Hyderabad Globe, AG Andhra Pradesh and EME Centre.

Thursday is a rest day.

Sainath wins

Manoj Sainath outwitted P. Sukruthi in the second round of the 15th annual YMCA Tatipally Gopalakrishna prize money open chess tournament at Narayanaguda YMCA in Hyderabad.

Double for St. Andrews

St. Andrews High School ‘A’ (Bowenpally) won the boys and girls board prizes in the fourth Rev. Fr. Devasia inter-schools basketball chess tournament here.

In the girls’ final, St. Andrews defeated Hindu Public School to finish with 22.5 points from six rounds while St. Ann’s School was second with 20 points. In the boys’ category, St. Andrews ‘B’ finished second with 20 points after it’s ‘A’ team clinched the honours with 21.5 points.
