BANGALORE: The top seed V. Amar set up a title clash with the third seed D. Guru Prasad in the men’s singles title of the Wearhouse State-ranking badminton championship here on Wednesday. In the semifinals at the club courts, Amar defeated Prateek Khurana 21-16, 21-13 while, Guru Prasad faced a stuff challenge from the Andhra player, S.D.S. Krishna, before prevailing at 15-21, 21-18, 21-7. Ankita Ashoka, who had earlier won the girls’ under-19 singles title, stormed into the women’s singles final with a 21-11, 21-16 victory over the second seed, G.M. Nischitha . She now meets the top seed, Monisha Vinayak, who beat Adfa Taqui 21-9, 21-11 in the other semifinal. The results (semifinals): Men’s singles: V. Amar bt Prateek Khurana 21-16, 21-13; D.Guru Prasad bt S.D.S. Krishna 15-21, 21-18, 21-7. Women’s singles: Monisha Vinayak bt Adfa Taqui 21-9, 21-11; Ankita Ashoka bt G.M. Nischitha 21-11, 21-16. ASC bags titleArmy Service Corps bagged the title in the Kodava Cup hockey with a 5-4 victory over Karnataka State Police here on Wednesday. The win came via the tie-breaker after both teams slotted two goals apiece during the regulation time. K.P Deepu (8th) and Sanjay Tete (14th) scored for ASC and Magesh (19th) and Lakshman Rao (25th) were successful for KSP during the normal playing time. In the tie-breaker, Silesh Bhengra, Ingocha Singh and Harpreet Singh scored for ASC while Subbaiah and Feroz shot wide. Pradeep and Mohan Kumar were on target for KSP but Chetan Kumar, Lakshman Rao and Sundar’s strokes were saved by ASC’s goal-keeper. Aloysius, Milagres post winsAloysius High School (Urwa) and Milagres High School (Mangalore) posted wins in the Hangyo Cup cricket tournament in Mangalore on Wednesday. Aloysius beat MRPL School (Kuthethur) by 32 runs, while Milagres got the better of Infant Jesus Joyland School (Bolar) by four wickets. The scores: Aloysius 155 for seven in 25 overs including 23 penalty runs (Kaushal 27, Kiran Clinton 26) bt MRPL 123 in 23.3 overs (Sameeha 27, Ankith three for 21); Infant Jesus Joyland 108 in 22 overs (Gautham 27, Harshith 27) lost to Milagres 109 for six in 18.6 overs (Harshith 41).
