Tendulkar pleased with the calm and composed demeanour of Dhoni

Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar has confided to a few important officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he is pleased with the calm and composed demeanour of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the performances of the newcomers in the Indian team and hence the time has come for Indian cricket to move on with a young captain in control of the reins.

Although he had given his consent to lead India in Test matches (after Rahul Dravid opted out of the captaincy race), his volte-face has been influenced by the results achieved by Dhoni and the Indian team in the T20 competition in South Africa. “Tendulkar told me that Dhoni is doing well and also that the team under his stewardship has done well. He’s not the one to cast aspersions on selection policies,” said a BCCI official. Though the selectors had decided to rest him after three one-day internationals against Australia, Tendulkar figured in all the seven internationals. He said the BCCI official — before he left for Kolkata for the two-day camp — that Indian cricket needed fresh ideas and that a young captain (Dhoni) ought to be handed over full control of the Indian team. It’s only after taking counsel from this official that Tendulkar spoke to the BCCI President and conveyed the reasons behind his decision.Dilip Vengsarkar, Chairman of the selection committee told The Hindu that Tendulkar has conveyed his decision and there’s no question of persuading him. Two other selectors said on Tuesday that they would be able to ascertain the developments only after reaching Mohali. — Special Correspondent
