Bonus for handloom weavers

CHENNAI: The Government has announced patronage rebate and bonus for weavers of profit-making handloom cooperative societies in the State.

Patronage rebate

According to an official press release, weavers belonging to the societies will get 50 per cent patronage rebate and 12.5 per cent bonus totally amounting to Rs. 13.09 crore for 2006-07. This will benefit 24,331 weavers in the State.

Employees of handloom cooperative societies, which come under the provision of the Bonus Act, will get 8.33 per cent bonus and ex gratia of 1.67 per cent subject to a maximum of Rs.4,200.

Those working in societies, where there is surplus, will get 20 per cent bonus subject to a maximum of Rs.8400.

Ex gratia

Employees working in cooperative federations and district cooperative societies, which do not come under the purview of the Bonus Act, will get Rs.1500 and Rs.1200 as ex gratia.
