Kiwis to stick with Fleming

JOHANNESBURG: Stephen Fleming’s dislocated thumb will not stop him trying to steady New Zealand’s shaky batting in the first Test against South Africa starting on Thursday.

Pollock out

The Test future of veteran South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock was thrown in doubt when he was left out of the team. Pollock had been included in a 12-man squad but captain Graeme Smith announced that South Africa would field an unchanged team following a Test series win in Pakistan last month when Pollock was not playing.

The teams (from): South Africa: Graeme Smith (captain), Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, Herschelle Gibbs, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn.

New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (captain), Shane Bond, Craig Cumming, Stephen Fleming, Mark Gillespie, Brendon McCullum, Chris Martin, Michael Mason, Iain O’Brien, Jacob Oram, Michael Papps, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Lou Vincent.
