Bangalore winter races from Nov. 9

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Winter Meeting 2007-08, covering 34 race days, is scheduled to commence on Friday, Nov. 9 and will conclude on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

Briefing the media here on Wednesday, the BTC Chairman, Mr. Jayant Shah said that the Club would be paying stakes and incentives of nearly Rs. 12.75 crores during the ensuing season.

He further said that payment of 20 per cent incentive on a pro rata basis to such owners who have no interest in more than five local horses, owned either individually, jointly or by a syndicate will be continued during the season and 20 per cent incentive in respect of Karnataka bred horses will continue as in the past.

Maximum of eight races would be held on all days except when there is only one meeting during the week and Classic race days and the concluding day, when a maximum of nine races would be permitted.

The Rajyotsava Trophy, framed for 3-y-o and upwards to be run over 1,400m with an added money of Rs. 4 lakhs, is scheduled to be run on the opening day.

Prospectus of the Classic races to be run during the season will be published shortly. The added money for the Classics will be as follows:

Bangalore Summer Derby Rs. 60 lakhs (plus Trophy worth Rs.1 lakh); Fillies Trial Stakes Rs. 20 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 50,000); Colts Trials Stakes Rs. 20 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 50,000); Bangalore Derby Rs. 20 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 1,75,000); Bangalore 1000 Guineas Rs. 10 lakhs ( Trophy Rs. 25,000); Bangalore 2000 Guineas Rs. 10 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 25,000); Bangalore Oaks Rs. 10 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 25,000); Bangalore St. Leger Rs. 10 lakhs (Trophy Rs. 25,000).

Special race days:

Fernhill’s Palace Bangalore 1,000 Guineas (Nov. 24), Bangalore Turf Club Trophy (Dec. 1), Harvins Bangalore 2000 Guineas (Dec. 8), Kelachandra New Millennium Cup (Jan. 4), Bangalore Oaks (Jan. 5), Chief Minister’s Trophy (Jan. 12), Poonawalla Bangalore Derby (Jan. 26), D. P. Sharma Memorial Sprinters Trial Stakes (Feb.1), Stayers Trial Stakes (Feb. 9), P. D. Dayanand Pai & Satish Pai Bangalore Winter Million (Feb. 16), Governors Trophy (Feb. 23) and Heeroji Lad Bangalore Juvenile Million (March 29).

The basic weight in respect of the all terms races for 3 & 4-y-o & over have been revised as per the new weight for age scale.

The penalties in terms races have also been revised as in summer relating the same to the performance of horses in graded or equivalent race and not based on stake money earned.

With effect from January 1, 2008, a procedure would be introduced for the first time in India, wherein the physical weight of horses participating in a race would be recorded at the time of identifying horses and would be simultaneously notified on the CCTV system.

In due course, comparative weight of a horse, as recorded in its previous run would also be displayed along with the weight of the horse on that race day. The above weight of all horses will be provided as additional information in the race card in future.

Effective from December 1, 2007, a professional would have the opportunity of being represented by a spokesman (not being a practising lawyer), during race day enquiries or enquiries, other than those relating to objections.

Nineteen and 16 bookmakers are expected to operate in the first and second enclosures respectively. Gross deduction on Win, Place and Second Horse Pool would be at eight per cent. 475 betting terminals will be in operation, including 132 terminals at off-course betting centres outside the racecourse.

Board of Appeal

The Board of Appeal has been re-constituted as follows: Mr. Vivek G. Ubhayakar (Chairman), Mr. N. Achuta Rao, Mr. M.G. Kadali, Dr. T. Thimmaiah and Mr. P.V. Shetty.

Racing will be held mainly on Fridays and Saturdays. Concurrently Winter Races will be held at Mysore for a period of fifteen days mainly on Wednesdays. 76 jockeys and 46 ‘A’ licence trainers are expected to take part in the Meeting. The track condition is well maintained.
