NEW DELHI: Delhi finished the formality in less than an hour on the final day to begin the season with a thumping 172-run win over Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy Elite group league match at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Wednesday. With five points in its kitty, Delhi looks forward with confidence to take on Saurashtra from November 15. Last year, Delhi had lost by an innings to Saurashtra at Rajkot. Rajasthan, overnight 188 for seven, was not expected to prolong the end, which came in quick time as Mithun Manhas claimed two wickets and Amit Bhandari plucked a return catch to get Robin Bisht, who compiled a fine 69 off 155 balls with ten fours. Dahiya pleasedDelhi coach Vijay Dahiya, obviously pleased with his impressive debut in a new role, gave the credit to the entire team. “We have plenty of gains but the best thing was we played as a team. Virat Kohli, Mithun Manhas, Rajat Bhatia were outstanding with the bat but I liked the way we bowled after being out for 119. “Our bowlers were exceptionally disciplined and it is nice to begin the season with a victory. I am sure it would help us in the next match against Saurashtra,” said Dahiya. Even as fast bowler Ishant Sharma has reported fit after recovering from his shoulder injury, Delhi was unsure of the venue for the match against Saurashtra. “We would love to play at Roshanara ground,” Dahiya indicated the team’s preference. The final decision rests with the authorities at the Delhi and District Cricket Association since a faction favours the contest to be held at the Jamia Millia ground.
