Haryana-Canada partnership in farm field likely

CHANDIGARH: Haryana and Canada will explore the possibilities of joint collaboration in agriculture and especially in bio-mass, bio-fuel and bio-technological sectors, an official spokesman said here on Wednesday.

He said this was decided in a meeting between Haryana’s Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Raj Kumar with a five-member Canadian delegation headed by Barry Todd, Deputy Minister, Foods and Rural Initiatives, Manitoba.

Agricultural Marketing Board Chief Administrator Ram Niwas and officers of the State Agriculture Department were also present.

It was also decided that the possibility of collaboration between Haryana and Canada in hybrid seed production, better agronomic practices for harvesting good yield, processing and value addition be explored.

Mr. Kumar said Haryana is one of the leading agrarian states in India and rice and wheat are the main food grain crops cultivated.
