SHIMOGA: Nivedana Malawadi of Shimoga, whose maiden cassette “Hradayave Hradayave” was released here on Thursday, is a promising artist. She quit Infosys to pursue her interest in music. She is keen on becoming a playback singer in Kannada film world. Nivadana, who started learning music at a young age, continued with it even while working in Infosys in the past two years under the tutelage of Manjula Gururaj in Bangalore. She learnt veena along with vocal music under the guidance of V. Jayalakshmi and Mysore V. Subramanya. By participating in the popular TV music competition, “Ede Tumbi Haduvenu,” conducted by the ETV while studying engineering, she proved her mettle as an upcoming singer. “That instilled a lot of confidence in me,” she says. Later, she sang for a few Kannada films, including “Ee Gulabiyu Ninagagi”. Her first album “Hradayave Hradayave” with well-known singer P. Balasubramanyam, which contains songs by lyricist K. Kalyan, was released K.V.R. Tagore, Commissioner, Information Department, at the Kuvempu Ranga Mandir here. Speaking on the occasion, he said music kept the Indian culture alive. He hoped that Ms. Nivedana would enrich the field of music. Prasannanath Swamiji of the local branch of Adichunchagiri Math spoke. Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture N. Harikumar presided over the function. Mr. Kalyan was felicitated on the occasion.
