Lucknow: Bishop Gerald Matheias has been appointed Bishop of the catholic diocese of Lucknow. The name of Matheias - who was Bishop of the catholic diocese Shimla-Chandigarh - was simultaneously announced in Vatican, Chandhigarh and Lucknow on Thursday, a catholic diocese release said here on Friday. The bishopric of the diocese in the city fell vacant following promotion of Bishop Albert D’Souza as the archbishop of Agra in April 2007, it said.
