Provide jobs for two persons in each family CBI should probe rice seizure case PUDUCHERRY: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has urged the government to implement radical land reforms in the rural and urban areas of the Union Territory. Puducherry unit secretary of the CPI (ML) S. Balasubramanian said in a release here that the party had adopted a resolution at its conference comprising Puducherry and Karaikal regions on November 2 and 3 calling for fixing five standard acres as the ceiling for farm lands and 500 sq.m. for urban lands. 200 daysThe party urged the government to extend the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to the Union Territory by increasing the number of working days to 200. It also pleaded for steps to provide jobs for two persons in a family. Governor interventionThe CPI (ML) sought the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor to transfer the case relating the seizure of rice to the Central Bureau of Investigation, besides booking cases against the railway personnel concerned. Against proposalsIt urged the government to give up the proposals for setting up of a special economic zone, agro-economic zone, airport in Karaikal, port expansion and airport expansion. Free riceThe party wanted the government to ensure supply of 35 kg of free rice for the families living below-the-poverty line, besides making distribution of 14 essential articles through fair price shops mandatory.
