New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Eight new Voter Registration and Electors’ Photo Identity Cards Centres (VRECs) have been opened in the Capital, taking the total number of Delhi Assembly constituencies provided with such centres to 34. The new VRECs have been commissioned in the following constituencies: Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Moti Nagar, Madipur, Vishnu Garden, Patel Nagar, Wazirpur and Narela (Scheduled Castes). All the constituencies are in West Delhi district except Wazirpur and Narela which fall in the North-West district. Announcing that 70 VRECs would be opened in the Capital to provide round-the-year service to the citizens for election-related activities, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi said the work of commissioning centres in the remaining 36 Assembly constituencies was in progress and would be completed soon. Services availableDr. Bedi said the citizens could avail of the following services at the VRECs: inclusion of names in the electoral rolls, objection/deletion of existing entry, correction of existing entry, transposition of entry from one polling station area to another, preparation and issue of Electors’ Photo Identity Card (EPIC), preparation and issue of duplicate EPIC, issue of certificate entry and inspection of entries. Each VREC would be equipped with all the information required, including electoral rolls, forms, touch screens and EPIC preparation facilities. Each centre will be headed by an Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and permanent staff exclusively for election-related services. “VREC will be the co-ordination point for Booth Level Officers in the Assembly constituency and for this purpose BLOs are being appointed in each of the 9,246 polling booths in Delhi. These BLOs would provide information regarding non-existent electors due to death and shifting to other place in respect of the polling booth allotted to them,” said Dr. Bedi.
