More villages brought under Gram Yojana plan

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has included 31 more villages in the Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsh Gram Yojana for developing them as ideal rural habitations.

With this, the number of villages in the State covered by the scheme has gone up to 117. State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Kalulal Gujjar announced here that the infrastructure in the selected villages would be improved to bring it on par with the cities. The scheme was launched in 2006-07 with the initial target of benefiting 50 villages.

Mr. Gujjar said the number of villages included in the scheme during the current financial year is 67.

The sectors getting special attention for infrastructure development include drinking water, power, roads, health care and sanitation. The Minister pointed out that as many as 270 development works were sanctioned for villages during 2006-07 and they would be executed at a cost of Rs.7.74 crore. The selected villages will have all infrastructure facilities on the completion of these works.
