CHANDIGARH: Nearly a hundred stalls put up for firecracker sales for Diwali were gutted in Sirsa on Diwali-eve. Luckily there were no casualties even though two Maruti cars and a dozen two-wheelers were burnt. According to Sirsa district authorities, the stalls had been put up in the Government College premises. They said crackers and other goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed in the blaze that reportedly emanated from a stall and rapidly spread. Reports said the stall owners and customers immediately rushed out to safety. Interim reliefSirsa Deputy Commissioner announced an interim relief of Rs.25,000 to each of the stall owners affected by the fire. He disclosed that a report about the loss was being forwarded to the Chief Minister’s office with the recommendation that the compensation amount be enhanced. Diwali bonanzaHaryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced a Diwali bonanza for the leader and members of the bhajan party and block publicity workers of the Publicity Wing of Haryana Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department by enhancing their fixed monthly wages. An official spokesman announced here on Friday that the leader of the bhajan party would get Rs.3,900 instead of Rs.2,200 per month, member of the bhajan party Rs.3,640 instead of Rs.1,750, and block publicity worker Rs.3,640 instead of Rs.1,200 per month.
