Powerloom strike continues in Chennimalai

Staff Reporter

ERODE: The strike by the powerloom weavers in Chennimalai entered the 14th day on Friday.

Demanding hike in wages and Deepavali bonus, the weavers stopped their work from October 27. All the trade unions are participating in the strike.

In the six rounds of talks, the managements agreed to grant 8.15 per cent bonus and 7.5 per cent wage hike.

While the DMK trade union accepted this, the other unions opposed the proposal. So the DMK also joined the strike.

Talks delayed

The talks are getting delayed as the president of the Powerloom Owners Association resigned from the post.

The Revolutionary Youth Union observed the Deepavali day as Black Day.

They said for want of bonus and wage hike, thousands of weavers were suffering.
